The Judiciary Committee oversees all of the District’s public safety agencies, including Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Corrections, Emergency Management, the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice. In addition, the Committee oversees the Office of the Corporation Counsel and reviews legislation related to criminal law, civil law, and administrative law in the District of Columbia. Finally, the Committee serves as the Council’s liaison with federal partners in the justice system, including the D.C. Courts, the Public Defender Service, and the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency.
